Meet Marlene Fox
Hello, I’m Marlene Fox, and I’m the creator of the Steady Buddy.
I live with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and for more than 25 years walking has been one of my biggest challenges. I’ve fallen more times than I can count — from cracks in the sidewalk to crowded crosswalks.
By the age of 50, the wear and tear on my body required a double-hip replacement. I knew how important movement is for both health and joy, but I often felt unsteady, afraid, and disconnected.
The idea for the Steady Buddy came one winter day while walking with my husband Derrick.
The idea for the Steady Buddy came one winter day while walking with my husband Derrick. I was clinging to his arm for balance, and his hand froze because he couldn’t keep it in his pocket. I thought, what if there was something I could hold onto that was attached to his arm, so we could both walk comfortably?
That moment became the spark for the Steady Buddy — a first-of-its-kind wearable walking aid. One person wears the armband, the other holds the sturdy handle, and together you walk steady, supported, and connected. It is lightweight, discreet, and easy to carry anywhere. Today, the Steady Buddy helps me walk with my head held high again, whether with my husband, a friend, or one day with a caretaker. It’s not just about stability it gives me confidence, dignity, and connection.
Now, with your support, I want to share this invention with thousands of people across the country who deserve to walk with freedom and companionship.
